Knowing God and Making Him Known in the DESERT

We are committed to show God’s love by helping the suffering desert community, in the Middle East, who have had been so badly treated and immensely discriminated over the years.

We show and share God’s love by organizing secular and Christian education (adult & child), by arranging vocational programs for women, by providing clean drinking water, by helping to start micro-businesses, building houses, and by meeting the spiritual needs with the eternal Word of God through the discipleship course.

We serve Jesus Christ as our savior.

OUR HISTORY

The origins of YWAM Desert Joy can be traced back to 1995 when a vision emerged to reach an unreached people group in the Middle East. The vision encompassed various initiatives such as installing wells, running Bible schools, teaching, and establishing micro-businesses.

In 2020, as the pandemic took hold, two missionaries affiliated with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) came together and spurred each other on to install the first well in the desert. Encouraged by their progress, they envisioned the addition of more wells. The home group they belonged to at the time generously contributed the initial funds required to expand the project, allowing for the installation of wells and providing essential food relief during the pandemic. This marked the beginning of YWAM Desert Joy, where they embarked on projects related to hygiene, flood relief, support for widows, vocational schools, and the liberation of enslaved individuals, among other endeavors.

Connections within the Middle East region facilitated the organization’s first Discipleship Course in 2020, attended by 14 students who successfully graduated in 2021. The ministry has since experienced growth, with the second group of 30 students, including three women, graduating. Women graduating was significant because it broke a cultural barrier that had persisted for 500 years within this particular group. Subsequently, a discipleship course has been going on annually, starting in January and concluding in November. Moreover, the ministry has reached out to two additional unreached people groups, resulting in numerous knowing Jesus.

Since 2020, a significant impact has been made, with approximately eight thousand individuals being presented with the Gospel, many of whom have embraced Christ. Additionally, 45 new churches have been established in the region, and 45 freshwater wells have been successfully installed as of June 2023.
